Medicom's 1:6 Scale ROTJ Version Boba Fett came in second of my favorite purchase in 2011.This guy didn't managed to create much fanfare here in Singapore during it's announcement till release. Probably due to local collectors already had a stigma for Medicom's 1:6 stuffs that they are overly expensive, poor quality and fragile (as hell!) body and most of all, not true to 1:6 scale. More of a 1:7. However, earlier buzz of this release from international 1:6 forums adds that this one has a new, more durable body with metal pins for reinforcing joints. And it is now taller than it's Empire Strikes Back (ESB) cousin from the same brand. Nevertheless, the biggest toy store here did not raise a pre-order for it.
Got mine from a local eBayer whom I have bought from before. Superb guy and item in good condition albeit displayed. I want to display it anyway hence wasn't too picky on this. Turns out everything is good and nothing broken. Paid a reasonable price for it as well.
Still am a little bit worried about doing excessive posing for I also experience many a Medicom's body breakage due to the slightest bend.
The most outstanding differences comparing a ROTJ vs ESB Boba Fett are :
1. Gauntlets - ROTJ Maronish Red, ESB Green.
2. Rocket back pack - ROTJ Colored, ESB Green.
There are lots more little details everywhere that can differentiate both version but I'm not really a Boba Fett connoisseur so I just know enough to make out the 2 versions.
I felt that this version has better painting and weathering as compare to the ESB version. Perhaps the design itself already require more painting while the ESB's green seems to be original plastic pallet green and no additional painting done. However, the head pops off the neck easily. It is a ball and socket joint. Maybe the socket design is faulty. The same occur to my Medicom's Bruce Lee.
ROTJ Fett is a tad taller than ESB Fett but not significantly. Hence when standing against other 1:6 figures, ROTJ Fett still seems a little on the short side. So I had both Fett stand beside Sideshow's behemoth Darth Vader LOL!
Final Verdict : No self respecting Starwars fan can tell you they do not have a Boba Fett in their collection. Me included. I have many Fetts in my collection but I want a top grade one. At the time, only Medicom made one that is arguable the best rendition of it in 1:6 scale at that time. Not long later, Sideshow Toys announces their version of ESB Fett. Lets see when it is released and in collector's hands and we can be sure of a head to head comparison with Medicom's one. I'd say go for it if you truly love a ROTJ Boba Fett, but do not pay through your nose for it. Anything under S$200 is good price to start with.
