The recent shipment of Hot Toys Captain Harlock triggers back my interest in my own Medicom Galaxy Express 999 version. I do not know about the story at all but are intrigue by the character design and the good Captain's nonchalant look. Bought the Kyaputen Hārokku back in Mar 2009 and even had an entry in this very blog here. 5 years on and I haven't watch the downloaded anime :p
The Captain comes in a very long, stick-like body which I haven't seen used anywhere else. Maybe on Lupin III's body with feet and hands extenders but I cannot be 100% sure since I haven't strip him down to check. Articulations are standard but because of the harder than usual vinyl boots, it is difficult (or impossible) to pose the ankles.
Cloak has wires running around the edges - yes, even the horizontal portion of it. It allows you to "pose and position" the cloak to how you want it to be. favorite pose should have it "flying in the wind".
Accessory wise, there isn't much. Specifically only a pair od extra hands and the rest of the items you see in these pictures.
With the cloak off, Captain looks tall and lanky. Almost as faithful to the anime (based on the artwork I've seen) if not the same.
I wonder why Medicom doesn't release a Queen Emaraldas to go with Harlock. Perhaps Harlock is the nonchalant lonely guy and Medicom decides to have him alone for awhile. Hope eventually the Queen will be release. But the recent Medicom toys prices are really scary... easily $280 a piece and it is with the most basic setup. Paid only about 70% of that price for Harlock and it isn't exactly affordable even at that price to say the least.
