Hasbro Transformers IDW Generations Deluxe Series - Skids

Autobots Skids from Transformers Wiki :
Skids is a theoretician. This is appropriate, as some would say his existence is merely theoretical; everyone forgets who he is or that he was there. But if they got to know him, they'd learn that he likes to daydream, get built into furniture, and pick up cowboy chicks.
Skids is a fast learner, voraciously absorbing and compartmentalizing new information he receives. This allows him to adapt to new environments and unexpected situations very quickly. His calm, observant nature and tendency to fade into the background sometimes causes some to question his ability to fight, but make no mistake; Skids can handle himself in battle.
He'd just rather...listen to some music, y'know?

Skid is one of the harder to find figure in this IDW Generation series. It was almost impossible to find when it just got release some months back. I did manage to catch Skids on the pegs a couple of times but passed on getting it until it is there again during a store wide 20% and I decided then it is a good time to put it in the bag.
I adore it's robot mode when everything is in good proportion and with fantastic design.

A quick review.

Articulations :
Score > 4.2/5
Need there be necessary for more to say?
Ball joints > Neck, shoulder, elbows, crotch, ankles
Swivel joints > Arms, waist, knees, thighs

This has one of the best articulations of all the mass produce Transformers toys I had. But Skids head articulations unfortunately share the same mishap as Orion Pax's. It can't look up as much as I want it to. When posed in a crouching stance, head can't be posed to look straight.
Another point deducted because the wrists are molded as one piece with the forearm. No swiveling there. Quite a big deal for me when the wrist are fixed that way.

Sculpting and design :
Score > 4/5

Excellent sculpting all round and in my humble opinion, is as good as the 3rd party cousins. Detail are crisp and defined. You can tell that real care is taken into designing this bot and efforts are put in to make this less a toy but a collectible.
However, some basic considerations seem to be left out ie, Skids can't stand straight without toppling over due to the "backpack". Therefore Skid need to be displayed in either a dynamic pose or with it crouching forward a little in order for it's 2 feet to keep standing. If a heel is present, it should solve this problem.
There are no light pipping design on the headsculpt hence the eyes doesn't "glow". Not something I am too concern on anyway.

Paintworks
:
Score > 3/5

There are not a lot of painting here as about 90% of the bot are in it's original plastic blue. But when there are paint applied, it wasn't too shabby. Special mention on the silver face paint is done almost immaculately. The glossy red paint on both "toes" also add variety to the otherwise plastic blue. Missiles were painted red over a silver background in a "mass produce toys" standard... but good enough. Another part that is worth a mentioned is the front grills design are also painted red to add dimensions.

Accessories :
Score > 5/5
In itself, the robot is already packed with build in blaster cannons. Skids came with 2 blaster pistols which can be connected together to form a long blaster rifle. Also an IDW comic book. That's about it. I think Skids has what it needs in this pack and nothing more need to be included.

Playability :
Score > 4.5/5

Anybody will love to play with Skids. It has immense playability. Arm's twin cannon can be swivel up to it's side. Panels from both side of the shoulder can be pulled down to revealed roles of missiles. There are also a twin shoulder cannon that are hidden behind the car roof at the back of the bot which can be spring-flip up ready to blast away. Both blasters can be connected to form a long rifle or as individuals, can be held one in each hands to make any Decepticons think twice about charging. And of course, it can be transformed into a car to roll away in times of danger. A kid's dream toy for sure.

Size :
No scoring for size. Standing feet flat on the surface to the tip of the shoulder comes to about 14cm. Quite standard size for a deluxe series figure.

Overall
Score > 4.5/5

When not breaking down into such a detail review, I love this version of Skids as how it is. Overall design seem to fall into place nicely. Skid seem to look good however you poses it. Just a good design bots that hit the right notes in almost every area. Best IDW Deluxe figure so far imo.

If you find Skids on the pegs, go for it. it is destine to become one of the classic that everyone will be searching for in the future - just like how the Henkei series is so in demand now.
