ThreeA Ashley Wood Adventure Kartel Fighting JC Mauro

Adventure Kartel's JCs were some of the first figures I got off directly from Bambalandstore. Mauro JC was made available on 15 Oct 2010 and it was a secret drop and came packed together with a Blind Oracle Zomb thus is a twin packed set. Wasn't a 3AA yet in 2010 hence paid full MSRP of US$150 for the set. A standard Fighting JC and also a 3AA Exegesis JC were offered for standard sale on the sale date. Tracky Boss JC was a secret drop like Mauro. I managed to get each of the versions when with a couple of hours remaining for the sale, Ashley Wood decides to open up the 3AA version for non-members. A lot of money spent that October day.
All the JCs were delivered on 24 Mar 2011, 159 days after the sale. Suddenly I have 4 bearded guys in my, then, small 3A collection... deja vu on all the clonetroopers I had....

Design Concept - 4 / 5
It is very brave of Ashley Wood to dabble in religion as there is little prize in guessing what "JC" meant here. But it is in incognito enough to grey it (just like Mauro) and a valid scream of innocence if challenged.
JC's headsculpt were beautifully done and again, it resemble the the Christian messiah in many ways comparing to historical art representation. The stylized beard sculpt immediately captures my attention deeply and overall execution of the headsculpt has little or no area to nick pick on.
Like Muay Thai boxer, JC's had bandages hands and it extend over to the forearm. The way they are sculpted seems to suggest it is bandages for wounds instead of meaning for punching. It is all in your own imagination anyway. Think and make it as you see proper. If nick picking is to be had here, the sculpted bandages does not continue to the forearm and sees a breakage between the wrists. But if we can have continual sculpted bandages all the way in connecting the hands to the forearms, we wouldn't have wrist articulations... it is all technical :)
Tattoo on the body are the same throughout all JC versions. It is nice to have some artwork designs on the body since the figure is design to be topless. I don't particularly dig the tattoo design however but is better than having a bare chest.
Overall a 4/5 score. If it is design with the messiah in mind, then it actually made the mark.
The wire helm within the edge of the overcoat allows positioning of the garb so that it can look natural when posing.

Painting - 4 / 5
Mauro was painted greyish tone and it possibly represented a fouler mood JC. A cut across the nose bridge were painted in red (to mimic a raw cut) and it represented how delicate the paint works went for this figure. Not to also mentioned the Tattoo work - although it is most likely done automatically - but has a crisp and well define print.
Raw blood stains on the bandages on the fist / hands are also commendable points of a good paint job.
And finally, the washes and weathering which we have come to expect from 3A which is faithfully reproduced in this JC.

Accessories - 3 / 5
Mauro JC basically doesn't come with anything extra. No extra hands, wrist pegs, weapons... nothing! Except for a spare Oracle Zomb headsculpt. A headsculpt is always a prized extra that everyone appreciates. Buy a spare body and  you immediately can make another Zomb. Hence just entirely because of the spare head, the set achieve a 3 / 5 score.
It will actually be nice if he can come with a giant wooden cross.

I'm leaving out "Articulations" as one of the scoring criteria because this is just having a standard 1/6 body and it has all the articulation points like the other 1/6 bodies. Nothing specific to mention.
As if not enough JCs already, 3A releases a couple more in "Palm in the face JC" and "Shit Got Real JC" which the latter had a slightly altered sculpt. 3A has also since released all 4 OG JCs into Action Portable 1/12 versions. I managed to get AP version of Tracky Boss JC, which like it's bigger 1/6 version, were a secret drop.
