Construction Bricks American M113 Armored Personnel Carrier

American grunts fighting in Nam called it the battlefield taxi. This little tracked aluminum box provides cover from light infantry weapons ferrying soldiers to and from the front lines. First entered service in 1960, it is still rolling around today, 58 years later. That is an incredible feat for a armored vehicle. Almost every country friendly to the US have some in their military. The Singapore army at one time operates about 1000 vehicles. And that brings the sentimental part of this APC for me. Owning one Lego sample of it will be a great idea.

Of course I did not design and build this all on my own. Got it from the internet from a stall that “design” and made these MOCs using 3rd party Chinese made Lego KO bricks. The model is considered dirt cheap if you compare to a model from say, Brickmania. The model I got was very basic and also out of scale, faulty design. It came with 6 road wheels on each side when there should only be 5.
I was gonna make modification anyway so thought more is better than less. Pulled out my box of sand yellow spare bricks and started recreating. The immediate thing to do is to rip out 1 road wheel from each side and then widen the width from 10 studs to 12 studs. Pictures of Brickmania’s version and a few others online were used as reference. Few hours later, the finished product presents.

Fun thing about Lego models are there is never a final model. Tweaks can be done along the way when newer design bricks are available to add further details or when the mood arrives. In this particular case, I still want to build a commander’s cupola (ie M113 ACAV) or to have an M163 Vulcan Air Defense System (VADS). I leave it to the next whim.
